There are three main types of stalker although they generally overlap -
The ex partner stalker will often have been physically emotionally and or sexually abusive during the relationship and it continues after breaking up.
The delusional stalker may believe that the person they are stalking are in love with them or in a relationship.
The vengeful stalker who may have been rejected by the person. They may also be an ex partner looking for revenge possibly because of a new relationship being entered into.
Living with stalking can be frightening and can have a profound effect on your life. The main aim of the stalker is to maintain power and control over the survivor’s life.
How to Deal With a Stalker
•Do not engage or react to the stalker
•Document what is happening and when
•Inform family and friends of what is happening
•Think about personal safety
•If you feel you can, notify the police and remember you can take a friend or relative to the police station for support, or a Rape Crisis worker can accompany you if you wish.
